The Common Scenario
It’s Wednesday. You’ve got membrane booked in for Friday, crew lined up, and materials ready.
Then the forecast changes — heavy rain on the way.
You call the builder, but site’s not ready to shift dates. Now you're stuck.
Either you install in sketchy conditions and risk rework — or you delay and juggle the rest of your week. Meanwhile, that Friday job? Now costing you more than it’s paying.
It’s a story almost every NZ waterproofer knows too well.
The QS Insight
From a QS and planning perspective, weather isn’t the problem — it's the lack of buffer and visibility in scheduling.
Here’s what we see go wrong:
Jobs booked without backup day options
No link between forecast tools and job calendar
No clear record of site readiness (photos, checklist, communication)
What this creates is friction — either with builders or within your team. You either rush jobs, reschedule too late, or stack work that becomes unmanageable.
A Simple Tip
Here’s a simple way to get ahead of the forecast:
Use a 7-day rolling job planner
→ Keep at least one flex day for every 3 jobs. It cushions last-minute shifts.Check the forecast daily early morning
→ Automate alerts using free tools (like MetService or Weatherzone app).Record site readiness
→ Before committing to a day, ask the builder for a site photo or checklist.
This isn’t about having a perfect plan — it’s about having a flexible one.
